The crown jewel of the waters of Šibenik is the Kornati archipelago – a group of islands unto their own which many sail here for, if for nothing else.
ibenik, an ancient Croatian city on the coast of a protected bay, is increasingly following the same path. Whenever we sail the narrow, mile or so long channel of Sveti Ante, the fortress with the same name and many other military fortifications along the channel and above the city serve as reminders of the huge strategic significance Šibenik has always held. Today instead of warships, nautical tourists sail into Šibenik harbour. One of the nicer places to moor is at the Šibenik waterfront, under the Cathedral of St. James, the Renaissance masterpiece built by master builders Juraj Dalmatinac (Georgius Dalmaticus) and Nikola Firentinac .
few years ago the Mandalina marina was built in Šibenik, in the vicinity of the repair shipyard, and a large marina is being built on the Kuline peninsula. Šibenik is a town of song, merriment, good food that comes both from the sea and from the Šibenik Range, and it hosts the International Children’s Festival – so make the most of it while you are here. Šibenik is the only town on the Croatian coast from which you can sail deep into the mainland, all the way to Skradin in the lower reaches of the River Krka.
